Our Glass Block Wall was an opportunity to honor or remember a loved one or a special occasion.

We appreciate each of the dedications our congregants made, and those glass blocks are now available for members to view digitally on this screen. Each tribute was recorded as it was written, and we hope that fond memories will be evoked as you read your glass block's inscription.

TORAH PROJECT 1 - COMPLETED IN 1993

Torah is the living embodiment of what it means to be a Jew. It teaches us about our history and about our holidays. Most importantly, it guides us in our decisions; it is the foundation of our values. Whether we touch the Torah during the Hakafah or we stand on the bimah and pass the Torah scroll from grandparent to parent to child, we feel a part of our heritage, and we understand the importance of passing our legacy from generation to generation, l'dor vador.

The final mitzvah in the Torah commands every one of us to write a Torah. Each of the 304,805 letters in a Sefer Torah must be scribed on a Kosher scroll by a Sofer. With the guidance of our Sofer, every member of Temple Beth El was given the opportunity to hold a quill and scribe a letter. Thus, the mitzvah was completed.

Temple Beth is most fortunate to have completed this mitzvah twice in its history. In 1993, our congregation, under the leadership of Ilene and Peter Wohlgemuth and Beth and Ken Garrod and their committees, celebrated with a memorable dinner dance to commemorate this occasion. In 2012, under the leadership of Aline Fisher and Tracey Labgold, members of all ages once again celebrated the completion of the writing of our new Torah with a festive processional to the Chuppah on the Bimah. That summer, one of our existing Torah scrolls was brought to Israel and donated to an Ethiopian congregation by Rabbi Levin and many congregants. This endeavor completed a second important mitzvah.

We are forever grateful to every member and family who made a dedication to Torah Project One. Whether it was a letter, word, verse, chapter or book, each of you contributed to your personal legacy and to the history of Temple Beth El.

CATEGORIES:
  • FIVE BOOKS OF MOSES - the gift of a complete book of Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers or Deuteronomy).
  • SIGNIFICANT PRAYERS - Shema, V'Ahavta, Mi Chamocha and more.
  • HOLIDAY TORAH READINGS – Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and others.
  • TORAH STORIES - These timeless stories of Rachel at the well, Jacob wrestling with the angel, Joseph's dreams and Moses at the burning bush for example, became a perfect way to honor adults and children.
  • PARSHIYOT AND SIGNIFICANT VERSES
  • IMPORTANT WORDS - From the first word of the Torah, to the name of a significant Biblical personality, to a word that inspired personal meaning
  • TORAH ADORNMENTS - the holy ornaments of the Torah including the mantle, breast plate, crowns, yad and more.
